Arrival in Moscow! With Global Village we transfer you directly to your hotel from the airport or railway (want to Start in St Petersburg? – look at our before and after section) for your first night in Moscow (Also ask about our great flight deals into Russia and back from Asia!).
After breakfast your guide will meet you at the hotel, to whiz you round the highlights. This is using public transport to familiarise you with the city centre and help smooth your path… at least until lunchtime! Afternoon and evening free to explore.
A full free day - for you to pack in the rest! Have you been to Pushkin Square? “The” place to meet friends or Izmailovsky Flea market for souvenirs? Perhaps you have pre-booked one of our city based excursions for today? (LINK?) Mid-evening we take you to your waiting train – to Siberia!
The Trans-Sib line leads you past Kazan and Ekaterinburg. The first leg of the trans-sib is the longest - 3 days from Mongolia to Irkutz, crossing 5 time zones. This might seem like a long time to spend on a train, but it passes pretty quickly. The train usually stops a couple of times a day so you can get off and stretch your legs, moreover the Tran-Sib is a lot more modern than you'd expect. Its usually air-conditioned in the summer or hot in the winter - the train attendants (usually old Russian Grannies called Provodniks in Russian) like the heat! Also on many of the station platforms there will be old ladies selling home made food. There is some fantastic stuff here, such as some great home-made dumplings and pastries. Buy them! They’re usually pretty good.
Then onwards into Siberia itself, via Novosibirsk…
across the River Yenisei, at Krasnoyarsk…
Arrival into Irkutsk and transfer (1hr) to Listvyanka Village on shore of Lake Baikal. Lunch, walking tour of the village including Lake Wildlife Museum. That evening have a real Siberian Sauna (banya), which will give you an appetite for a home-cooked supper.
